I was a college professor, newspaper reporter on the financial desk, and minor editor. I remember in the late 50's and early 60's being baffled by the seemingly self-defeating strikes that were reverberating around the nation. They didn't make economic sense, so I did quite a bit of investigating, to discover the underlying causes of the walkouts. Harvard Business REview published my findings in a special study. Generally, the causes are NOT doing the right things to win the hearts, minds, and loyalty of one's employees.
