Interview Q&A
How long have you been in business?
Since 1997.
What is your primary product or service?
Daystar School provides a faith-based, culturally-engaged academic education for students in grades PK through eighth.
How did you first become interested in your line of business? (if owner) - What is your background? (If owner or store manager)
Many years prior to 1997, a group of educators, business people, ministers, and parents gathered regularly to discuss what the ideal Christian school in downtown Chicago should look like. For years, they evaluated best teaching methods and practices. Eventually, the fully formed Board hired a founding principal that was a visionary with years of experience as a teacher, curriculum writer, and principal.
How do you differentiate yourself from other businesses in your category and area?
Daystar students are challenged to reach their highest academic potential to secure as many educational options as possible. Students pursue inquiry-based projects and other learning activities that require their own initiative, engagement, exploration, problem-solving, and creativity. Daystar's differentiated program provides students with opportunities for academic support and acceleration through tiered assignments, independent challenges, learning centers, flexible grouping, and adapted assignments. At Daystar, students develop a worldview with perspective on life - how it works, what it means, what is discernment in a world that is both miraculous and challenging. As followers of Christ, students learn to love God, serve others, and care for the creation. Daystar students live and grow in a community of intentional cultural, ethnic, and socioeconomic diversity. Students learn, play, worship, celebrate and work together in ways which enhance personal, social, and academic growth. They harness the power of community intentionally and successfully. Daystar students experience a thoughtful, respectful, safe environment where differences are accepted, where all can take the necessary risks of their work without fear, where staff and peers offer guidance and support. Students take learning excursions into the community and invite experts into their classrooms. By tapping these resources, they receive an education with a breadth and depth that no single institution can match.
